Overview of Shredy
Shredy is a comprehensive tool designed to streamline the SR&ED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) tax incentive process in Canada. It helps businesses identify eligible projects, manage documentation, and collaborate with consultants or accountants to maximize their claims.
Who are you?
1) "SR&ED—never heard of it."
No worries! SR&ED is Canada's largest R&D tax incentive program.
- Skim our 3-minute primer: What is SR&ED? (opens in a new tab).
- Use the Eligibility Checklist (Dashboard → Help ribbon → Am I eligible?) to see if your work qualifies.
- If you pass 3+ checklist items, start at Company Information and follow the workflow in order.
2) "We did R&D last year—now what?"
You suspect your team's work qualifies for SR&ED but haven't pinned down the projects yet.
- Review your product roadmap or sprint board for any technical uncertainties tackled in the last fiscal year.
- Talk to lead developers or scientists—ask what was unknown when they started.
- Use Shredy's Project Ideas Wizard (Dashboard → Projects → Need help?) to brainstorm potential claims.
- Once you have projects identified, move on to the Project Information guide to draft narratives needed for filing.
3) "We already work with a consultant / accountant."
Shredy plays nicely with external advisors:
- Invite them as Read-Only Collaborators under Settings → Team.
- Complete the workflow steps yourself; generate the T661 PDF.
- Hand the package to your consultant—they can EFILE using their usual software.
- They keep their retainer; you keep control of your data.
